Pfizer-Biotech’s (NYSE: PFE) Covid-19 vaccine received full approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Monday. An action that is expected to increase confidence in the shot as pandemic numbers continue to surge.

The new label is the strongest endorsement from the FDA and the shot is considered to have extensive evidence of it’s safety following month’s of operating under an emergency use authorization.

Vaccine Approval Instills Confidence

“The FDA’s approval of this vaccine is a milestone as we continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic. While this and other vaccines have met the FDA’s rigorous, scientific standards for emergency use authorization, as the first FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine, the public can be very confident that this vaccine meets the high standards for safety, effectiveness, and manufacturing quality the FDA requires of an approved product,” said Acting FDA Commissioner Janet Woodcock, M.D. “While millions of people have already safely received COVID-19 vaccines, we recognize that for some, the FDA approval of a vaccine may now instill additional confidence to get vaccinated. Today’s milestone puts us one step closer to altering the course of this pandemic in the U.S.”

According to Pfizer, the U.S. is now the first country to completely approve the vaccine. The pharmaceutical’s CEO Albert Bourla stated that he hoped the determination “will help increase confidence in our vaccine, as vaccination remains the best tool we have to help protect lives.”

“While all three COVID vaccines have met FDA’s strict standards for emergency use, this FDA approval should give added confidence that this vaccine is safe and effective. If you’re not vaccinated yet, now is the time.”
