Microsoft (MSFT:NASD) announced Wednesday that they would be cutting 10,000 jobs as PC and cloud growth is slowing. 10,000 jobs accounts for roughly 4.5% of total employees at Microsoft.

The company has tried to minimize the impact of layoffs but as sales are starting to falter they have moved up the timeline. The company says they will layoff the 10,000 by March of this year. Microsoft last year also started to slow hiring in certain divisions to help counter minimized growth.

“As we saw customers accelerate their digital spend during the pandemic, we’re now seeing them optimize their digital spend to do more with less.”

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella

The company will continue to seek high-level talent to fill certain roles as layoffs hit certain sectors of the company.
