The system is set to allow Verizon to expand its rural broadband access within the United States, according to the companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large\"><p>\u201cWe\u2019re proud to be working together to explore bringing fast, reliable broadband to the customers and communities who need it most.\u201d<\/p><cite>Amazon CEO Andy Jassy<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Amazon\u2019s satellite internet system, called Project Kuiper, is still in progress. Both companies announced the partnership Tuesday, which will entail Verizon helping Amazon develop Project Kuiper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large\"><p>\u201cAs part of the collaboration, Project Kuiper and Verizon have begun to develop technical specifications and define preliminary commercial models for a range of connectivity services for US consumers and global enterprise customers operating in rural and remote locations around the world.&#8221;<\/p><cite>Statement From Verizon<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>To start, Verizon will utilize Project Kuiper for \u201ccellular backhaul,\u201d so Amazon\u2019s system can provide high-speed broadband to those areas where Verizon\u2019s Network does not get enough coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Integrating Existing Technology<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe integration will leverage antenna development already in progress from the Project Kuiper team, and both engineering teams are now working together to define technical requirements to help extend fixed wireless coverage to rural and remote communities across the United States,\u201d Verizon adds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Verizon (NYSE: VZ) is teaming up with Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) as a means of using the tech company\u2019s upcoming satellite internet system.
