\u201cWhile we believe building \u2018Instagram Kids\u2019 is the right thing to do, Instagram, and its parent company Facebook, will re-evaluate the project at a later date. <\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\nAccording to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Facebook allegedly knew its Instagram app was damaging to many teenager’s. The journal included Facebook Studies from the past three years that examined how Instagram influenced younger users. One specific Facebook study stated that among teens who had suicidal thoughts, 13% of British users and 6% of American users said the issue had to do with Instagram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mosseri places the blame for the halt of \u201cInstagram Kids\u201d on the media and critics for misinterpreting the objective of the app. \u201cIt was never meant for younger kids, but for tweens (aged 10-12),\u201d he wrote. In another tweet he added that the project \u201cleaked way before we knew what it would be. People feared the worst, and we had few answers at that stage. It\u2019s clear we need to take more time on this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lawmakers Said to Abandon the Plan<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
Following the backlash, lawmakers began to reevaluate their former concerns towards the social media app. U.S. congresswoman Lori Trahan, called for Facebook to completely abandon its \u201cInstagram for Kids\u201d venture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nevertheless, Facebook continues to defend its efforts to attract more kids to the app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCritics of \u2018Instagram Kids\u2019 will see this as an acknowledgment that the project is a bad idea. That\u2019s not the case.
