Expedia Group to Expand Loyalty Programs Throughout Travel Brands

Expedia Group (NASDAQ: EXPE), an online travel shopping company, is set to merge and expand customer loyalty program offerings throughout its portfolio of brands. The move will allow customers to enjoy the industry’s best travel rewards. The Travel brands include Expedia, Hotels.com, Ortbitz, Travelocity and Vrbo.

American Airlines was the first to introduce a loyalty program in 1981. Nevertheless, contrary to airlines, consumers do not usually stick to one hotel chain or car rental company in order to accumulate points. Many people sign up with multiple companies and rack up a quantity of low points within several competing businesses.
145 Million Members
Expedia group will be including several competing brands to the program, with a total of 145 million loyalty program members in total.

An exact launch date has not yet been disclosed, however a spokesperson revealed it is set to commence “within the coming year.”
