Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE: CMG) has reported that its latest menu innovation, Plant-Based Chorizo is being tested in Denver and Indianapolis.  This is the company’s first new plant-based protein option since its debut of Sofritas® in 2014.  “Plant-based lifestyles have continued to accelerate in popularity, and as a longtime leader in the category, we are exploring ways to give more variety to our fans,” said Chris Brandt, Chief Marketing Officer. “We used real ingredients to create a plant-based protein with a deep, rich Chorizo flavor that can be enjoyed by everyone.”

The new Plant-Based Chorizo has been made with ingredients grown on a farm, not in a laboratory.  Chipotle peppers, tomato paste, ancho chili, crushed garlic, extra virgin olive oil and smoked paprika fuse with natural protein sourced from freshly grown peas to deliver a product that guests will love.  This plant-based option has 20 grams of protein per serving, free of artificial flavors, preservatives and colors, made without gluten, grains or soy.

Demand Shifting

Chipotle continues to innovate its menu to follow the continued shift in demand of old and new consumers alike.
