Jan 3, 2022 By MarketDepth
Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE: CMG) announced an addition to its menu: meatless chorizo. The option will be available for a limited time throughout U.S. locations. The Plant-Based Chorizo is made from all fresh ingredients grown on a farm, according to the company.
Plant Based Chorizo
The American chain initially launched a trial for the plant-based chorizo over the summer, which they called “highly anticipated.”
“We are thrilled to introduce guests to our new, flavor-packed Plant-Based Chorizo during a season when healthier options are top of mind. Plant-Based Chorizo is our best chorizo ever and proves that you don’t have to sacrifice flavor to enjoy a vegan or vegetarian protein.”
Chris Brandt, chief marketing officer
The company’s plant-based chorizo is completely vegan and made with Chipotle peppers, tomato paste, crushed garlic, Spanish smoked paprika and extra virgin olive oil. The protein in the product is derived from peas.
“Creating a delicious plant-based protein that sizzles on the grill with the robust flavor and texture profile chorizo-lovers expect was a real challenge. Our culinary team has worked relentlessly for years to develop this breakthrough Plant-Based Chorizo recipe that is uniquely Chipotle and aligns with the brand’s industry-leading Food with Integrity standards.”
